Logo Design Brief
Blather Media requested a simple and contemporary logo design. Key design specifications included that the new logo design be simple, name-forward (rather than overly symbolic) and translate easily to profile avatars and social media platforms. The client had no specific color requests, other than the color be bold to echo the firm’s style and attitude toward media content creation and distribution.
Logo Design Process

The idea for a illustration-style dialogue box came early in the design iteration process. The dialogue box concept was preceded by a few mouth design concepts, but these felt too derivative of the iconic Rolling Stone mouth and tongue logo and did not speak to the brand’s identity. Attempts at a classic comic book oval or elliptic dialogue balloon were quickly dismissed as feeling too cartoon-ish or juvenile, as the company creates and distributes meaningful content. The sharper, square dialogue balloon quickly developed from the search for an appropriate logotype typeface.
The logo design system includes several lock-up variations on the main logo and two alternate logos, which were specifically created for small profile and avatar applications. The logo lock-ups include the addition of the word Media to identify Blather’s business and the company’s More Than Talk tagline. The Blather logo may appear on it’s own or with either of these lock-ups as the company deems appropriate. Two small-scale, alternate logo designs take the logo’s dialogue box and superimpose the company name’s first three letters and first letter (Bla and B, respectively). These small versions are used to brand online content and represent the company in in its social media profiles. The company opted for a business card design and forewent a formal company letterhead to keep cost down.
